1/72 EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON FGR4 ZK343, 1(F) SQN, RAF LOSSIEMOUTH, 2020
The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine multi-role fighter built by a European consortium made up of the UK, Germany, Spain and Italy.
With 4 countries involved it is necessary to have what they call Tranches (similar to contracts) that are broken down into batches and blocks. The development of the Eurofighter began in 1983 with the prototype maiden flight of the Eurofighter taking place on March 27, 1994. The first fully equipped Tranche 2 Instrumented Production Aircraft (IPA7) took to the skies on January 16, 2008.
In September 2012 No. 1 (F) Squadron reformed at RAF Leuchars and equipped with the new Eurofighter Typhoon. In September 2014 the squadron moved operations to RAF Lossiemouth to join No. 6 Squadron, XV (R) Squadron, "D" Flight, No. 202 Squadron (SAR) and No. 5 Force Protection Wing. No. 1 (F) Squadron has the distinction of being the first fly VTOL aircraft. In July 2020 the main runway at RAF Lossiemouth was being resurfaced so the Typhoons were to move to Kinloss Barracks and the QRA jets to deploy to Leuchars.
