Description
The Toyota Soarer is a Japanese sports luxury passenger car that was first presented to the public in 1981. Its serial production started in the same year and lasted until 2005. The production of the model was concentrated mainly in the cities of Motomachi and Susono in Japan.
The Soarer model was developed and put into production in order to supplement the commercial offer of the Toyota concern, as well as to increase its share in the sports car segment, competing in Japan with such cars as Nissan Leopard or Mazda Cosmo. It was also to be used to test new technological solutions of the concern, before they enter really mass production. The car turned out to be successful and in 1982 won the title of the Japanese Car of the Year. Four generations of the car were created in the course of production, while the third and fourth generations were designed primarily for the American market, which was reflected in the 2.5-4.3 liter power units and the body style. The car was offered in two main body variants: as a 2-door coupe or a 2-door convertible. It is worth adding that since 2006 the car was offered in the USA under the name Lexus SC.
