Description
In July 1941, the manufacturer Willys Overland was awarded the contract, based on strict specifications, for a small, multi-purpose off-road vehicle that was easy to drive, maintain, and repair. Assembly was simple, using only the most essential parts, and the Jeep was born: a nearly timeless vehicle with a truly distinctive look. The vehicle-so unique in its design-was seen in every area of operation. The Jeep was present from the very first day, on the beaches of the D-Day landings in Normandy in June 1944, and became synonymous with liberation for the local population.
