Description
The VBCI (Véhicule Blindé de Combat d'Infanterie - Armored Infantry Combat Vehicle) provides transport, protection, and support for infantry combat groups and their command and control equipment. The VBCIs deployed in Afghanistan since April 2010 are distinguished by special equipment, including anti-RPG protective nets against rocket-propelled grenades and a mine-protection housing beneath the chassis. In June 2012, 400 of the 630 VBCIs were delivered in the VCI (Véhicule de Combat d'Infanterie - Infantry Combat Vehicle) and VPC (Véhicule Poste de Commandement - Mobile Command Post) variants.
