Hogan Wings 1/48 US Willy's Jeep "Follow Me" US Army Air Force, WWII
"Follow Me" jeeps were used to help with control of ground traffic at airfields. If an aircraft landed at an unfamiliar airfield it would require guidance to the various runways, taxiways and parking areas. Sometimes local aircraft needed their services to reach the correct assigned location. Once the aircraft had slowed to a safe speed these brightly colored jeeps would drive in front with a large "Follow Me" sign attached to the rear and would proceed to the assigned spot for that aircraft.
Designed to meet a US Department of War requirement for a light, cross-country reconnaissance vehicle, the Willys MB Army Jeep was manufactured between 1941 and 1945. The Willys Jeep was the original version of what would later become one of the most iconic vehicles in American history, evolving into a popular civilian vehicle that is still being produced today. The Willys Jeep was a compact, four-wheel drive vehicle that rapidly became one of the most prolific vehicles of WWII. More than 640,000 standardized versions were produced, with 8,690 other versions built over a period of four years.
