Why this kit matters

The Grumman F-14A Tomcat was a US Navy carrier-based fighter developed for fleet air defence and long-range interception. Its variable-sweep wings allowed the aircraft to change configuration for different flight conditions, while its powerful radar and missile systems gave it a major role in protecting carrier battle groups.

VF-41, known as the "Black Aces", was one of the US Navy squadrons selected to operate the F-14 Tomcat. Aircraft 160388 represents the squadron during its early Tomcat era aboard USS Nimitz in 1978, making this model a useful snapshot of US naval aviation during the late 1970s.
