The prototype of the -300 rolled out of the Renton plant on January 17, 1984, and first flew on February 24, 1984. Used passenger -300 aircraft have also been converted to freighter versions. The 737-300 has been replaced by the 737-700 in the Boeing 737 Next Generation family.

Collectible, easy-to-assemble 1:130 scale model of the Boeing 737-800 Freighter in Qantas livery is made of mould injected plastic. Wood stand included.
