Description
No 70 Squadron was originally set up back in 1916 and immediately saw action during World War I. From the 1920s onwards, it was equipped with various transport aircraft, based mainly in the Middle East, interrupted by World War II in which it exchanged its transports for bombers. After the war, they returned to their role of tactical and strategic airlifting and have been operating the A400M Atlas since 2014. To celebrate their centenary, the unit’s winged lion was painted onto the large stabilizer unit of ZM406.
