Description
From the summer of 1954, Iberia included US destinations in its route network. For this purpose, three Super Constellations were put into service, named after the three ships with which Columbus set out on his westbound voyage - the Santa Maria, the Pinta and the "Niña", registered as EC-AIO. The first flight from Madrid to New York took place on August 3, 1945, the anniversary of Columbus' three-ship voyage to the New World from the Spanish port of Palos de la Frontera.
