Description
The squadron formed on April 22, 1916, as a fighter unit, serving in France during World War I. Post-war the unit’s role changed to bomber-transport along with a moved to the Middle East. During World War II served in Greece, Western Desert and later Italy. Post-WWII moved to Cyprus as a medium-range transport squadron, returning to the United Kingdom in 1975. Now a Strategic and tactical air transport squadron, based at RAF Brize Norton, Oxfordshire, England and operate the A400M Atlas.
