Description
The star of the 12th Tokyo Motor Show in 1968 was, without doubt, a very special model with a completely new name, the Toyota 2000GT. This car not only boasted an exciting external style and internal comfort including rosewood dashboard panel and mahogany wood steering wheel hand-made by craftsmen but it had been developed in partnership with Yamaha Motor Co., Ltd. It was this latter connection which highlighted its position as the first Toyota passenger car to be fitted with a twin overhead camshaft engine. The 2000GT was also successful in competition. It was entered in the second round of that year's Prototype race series and finished first and seconds. And before the car was launched on the market, it was used to challenge FIA and JAF endurance speed and distance records were broken. With this background, it was no surprise how much interest this Grand Tourer created in April 1967 when it was offered for sale.
