Description
The 712th Guard Fighter Aviation Regiment is based at Kansk AB and equipped with the MiG-31BM “Foxhound”. With the development of the Kinzhal hypersonic ballistic missile Russia required an aircraft capable of carrying it. The BM variant was approved in 2008 so 50 MiG-31Bs were modified allowing the aircraft to detect aircraft at a distance of 200 miles and track 24 targets up from 10 and capable of engaging 8 targets armed with R77, R33 and R37 missiles.
