In 1989, more Porsche 962 Cs started the 24 Hours of Le Mans than any other car. The Porsches led for many laps, but still didn't make it onto the podium. It must be said that these models, designed in 1982, suffered from the introduction of newer engine developments, particularly from Mercedes and Jaguar.
